The Saulajoch is reached from the Lünersee Douglass-Hütte (1978m) by climbing up to and across the Lünerkrinne (2155m), then down towards the Heinrich-Hueter Hütte and left at the Gipsköpfle (1975m). From there, the rather steep path we call the "Königersteig" climbs up to the east side of the Saulajoch. The Saulajoch (20655m) itself is one of the most peaceful, pastoral, beautiful spots in the whole area. Return is via the the Saulajochsteig, which clings to the steep edge of the Schafgaffal and descends to below 1900m before climbing back up to the Douglass-Hütte. Although we did it in the opposite direction the first time, we subsequently decided that the walk is best as described here.
